Up Close and Personal With Platelets – Professor Nicholas Pugh
This week at Teach Me in 10, we're joined by Professor Nicholas Pugh from Anglia Ruskin University. His research investigates the signalling mechanisms that are used by platelets during pathophysiological thrombus formation, and he's particularly interested in the role of zinc as extracellular and intracellular signaling molecules.
In this video, Professor Pugh brings us up close and personal with platelets. What are they? What are they essential for in human physiology? Why is it important that we study them? Watch this Teach Me in 10 to find out more. For further reading, Professor Pugh suggests you check out the following publications:
- Zinc: an endogenous and exogenous regulator of platelet function during hemostasis and thrombosis
- Agonist-Evoked Increases in Intra-Platelet Zinc Couple to Functional Responses
- Zinc regulates reactive oxygen species generation in platelets
