Christian Castro profile page

Christian Castro works at the intersection of computational microbiology, bacterial pathogenesis, and the microbiology of the built environment. He is the lead bioinformatician in the Microbiology Laboratory at the NASA Johnson Space Center and supports the Human Health and Performance Contract. With a focus on human-occupied spacecraft and low-resource settings, he aids in the development of portable, nanopore sequencing-based workflows. Through his strong foundation in both the laboratory and bioinformatic methods, Christian applies high-throughput sequencing approaches to uncover microbial diversity and address challenges in microbiological research across a variety of environmental contexts.
