Underscoring their commitment to innovative research in the field of diagnostics and personal hormone health, Restore Biodiagnostics, a Restore Health company specializing in hormone testing and other advanced diagnostics, has received a NIH grant to develop a rapid point of care test to determine an individual’s stress level using a single saliva specimen in 15 minutes or less. The test will semi-quantitavely measure the stress hormone Cortisol.
Funding for the $325,000 project is provided by the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The technology under development is based on an immunochromatographic test platform delivering real time immediate results in laboratory or field settings where standard laboratory equipment might not be available.
Phase one of the project will validate the technology against standardized enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for the measurement of stress levels in Cortisol. Phase two of the project will demonstrate the technological effectiveness in laboratory settings under both stressful and non stressful situations. This underpinning will also aid in the development and refinement of protocols with stress research in human clinical trials.
