During last years there has been an exponential increase in the incidence of serious fungal infections with high morbidity and mortality. These are often associated with surgery, organ transplants, tumors and intensive care patients. The nature of the infection depends on the underlying disease, and the epidemiology of the infections is changing in parallel with advances in clinical practice, transforming the risk population.
Currently, diagnostic tests are trying to obtain reliable results allowing identification of patients who are potential candidates for receiving early antifungal treatment in order to improve the prognosis and treatment.
All this justifies the need for a cost-competitive Kit for the diagnostic of fungi and yeast (media culture are still very slow and serological tests do not have the desired sensitivity and specificity).
For this reason, Blackbio within its line of Microbiology has launched BlackLight Fungal ID Kit which allows the detection and identification of fungi and yeast in a biological sample with high sensibility and specificity. Handling is minimal with these kits minimizing possible contamination, and it is faster than any traditional method for fungal identification, as diagnostic can be completed in less than 4 hours, instead of the present two to five, the company claims.
BlackLight Fungal ID kit has been widely tested in hospitals with clinical samples that have allowed the identification not only of the most common fungi and yeasts such as Candida spp. or Aspergillus spp., but also others less frequent or with lower incidence.
