Bugging Our Bowels: Engineering Bacteria To Eavesdrop on Gut Health

The trillions of microbes that live inside our guts – together known as the gut microbiota – are critical for our health and wellbeing. Changes to this microbiota occur during various diseases of global health importance, including infection, cancer, metabolic diseases, and various inflammatory disorders. Unfortunately, the gut’s inaccessibility limits our ability to understand these changes and their importance in both the clinic and the research lab. Here, Dr. David Riglar will discuss ways that they're using synthetic biology to solve this problem, and their quest to develop non-invasive living engineered bacterial tools – smart probiotics – to help us understand and control the gut and gut microbiota.

Attend this webinar to:

  • Gain a greater understanding of the gut microbiome in relation to disease manifestation
  • Explore techniques using non-invasive tools to interact with the gut environment
  • Learn about synthetically engineered bacterial tools which provide a greater understanding of gut dynamics for disease management and treatment
