Electron Activated Dissociation: A New Paradigm for Mass Spectrometry

smartmockups_krm8zyzsTandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) has evolved as one of the most valuable analytical tools available to modern scientists and enables the identification, structural elucidation and quantitation of compounds. Most MS/MS applications today use collision induced dissociation (CID) for inducing fragmentation. However, CID produces insufficient fragmentation of specific molecule classes, sizes, and chemistries that inhibits their characterization or selective quantitation. As a result, there is clearly a need for improved fragmentation mechanisms to address the shortcomings of CID.
