The fourth International Workshop, CECE 2007, was held in Brno, the CzechRepublic on November 15th and 16th. The multidisciplinary meeting, covering modernbioanalytical technology and applications, was organized by the Institute of AnalyticalChemistry in Brno. The sixteen invited lectures were presentedby distinguished scientists from Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Singapore,Slovakia, Sweden and USA. This year’s meeting, held in the conference center of thehotel Continental was sponsored by local and international companies including AppliedBiosystems, Waters, Watrex, Villa Labeco, Siemens, Shimadzu, Vitrum, ASO,BioTech and Genomac. The presentations and related poster sessions, coveredimportant topics such as capillary separations, mass spectrometry, microfluidics, DNA,protein and carbohydrate analysis, biomolecular computer modeling, magnetic andoptical manipulations of cells and particles and atomic force microscopy. The plenarylecture by S. Kozubek discussed the details of the new national synchrotron facility to beconstructed in Brno with the help of the EU funding. The meeting attracted around 100participants including a strong group from the nearby University of Vienna. Thescientific as well as evening social program with traditional cymbal music helpedstimulating informal scientific and personal discussions.
