Excelsyn Plugs-into new Facilities in Newcastle

Read time: 1 minute

Excelsyn Engineering Technology has moved into new and larger offices and workshops in Newburn Riverside, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to meet business growth.

The Riverside House 8,000 sq. ft. office in Newburn is complemented by a new 7,650 sq. ft. workshop facility nearby.

One of three Excelsyn businesses, all focused on the pharmaceutical development and manufacturing supply chain, Excelsyn Engineering Technology designs, builds and installs production equipment for healthcare manufacturing.

The new offices provide more engineering and design office area, with workshops and fabrication facilities double the size of previous production space.

This allows for more efficient material flow, project areas and project throughput.

Driven by business and employment growth, Excelsyn has been looking to re-house its Engineering Technology business since last year.

Improved facilities will enable focus on Excelsyn’s specialisation in skid-mounted or "modular" equipment packages, especially for the biotech and pharma sectors.

These typically integrate process equipment, piping and valves with customised electrics and automation systems, and the workshop-based "design and build" includes commissioning and pre-qualification before final installation and hook-up.

Customers benefit from faster installation, less disruption to existing operations and long-term "plug-and-play" flexibility to meet varying production needs for different drugs.

Excelsyn Engineering Technology has 50 Newburn-based staff, with a mix of project management, engineering and design, workshop, commissioning and validation disciplines.

Managing Director Kenny Gilmour commented, "Trends in drug production - including shorter runs of more complex drugs - demand ever more flexible manufacturing set-ups."

And he added, "The larger, better laid-out facilities in our new location will enhance our capability to meet this corresponding increase in demand for ‘modular’ equipment packages."

Excelsyn’s head office is also in the UK North East: the group moved into its Cuthbert House offices in Newcastle–upon-Tyne in summer 2005.
