A new High Content Screening Paradigm: Combination of Image Analysis Software and Microplate Cytometry
Researchers are under increasing pressure to perform high content cell-based assays at throughputs compatible with primary screening. Where throughput is not an issue, microscope-based CCD imagers have predominated within the high content field, due to the breadth of biological assays that can be addressed by image analysis techniques. However, they have limited utility for screening due to their low throughput, limited field of view and generation of terabytes of image data.

The Synergy™ 2, A Novel Approach to Microplate Multi- Detection for HTS and Drug Discovery
The Synergy™ 2 is a new type of reader that provides research laboratories with performances usually found on high-end HTS instrumentation, while delivering flexibility and efficient cost-control to screening laboratories. The Synergy 2 utilizes multiple optics to provide performance regardless of the detection technology.

Methods For Automated Structure Determination for Ligands Within a Protein-Ligand Complex
Afitt is a software package for automated ligand conformation generation and placement within algorithmically identified unfilled electron density. Following real space refinement, the ligand solution is sent for subsequent refinement by Refmac or CNX, via coordinate and dictionary files. We have validated Afitt on forty publicly available data sets, chosen because it contains examples of highly strained ligand conformations.

Microwave Accelerated Heterogeneous Catalysis – Flow-Through Reactor Concept and Application
Flow-through processes in organic synthesis become more important as an enabling technology for a cost effective and convenient method. This requires appropriate reactors with functionalities for organic reactions. In this project noble metal-loaded polymer/carrier reactors able to be operated in a microwave field were investigated. By application of a microwave field metal sites are heated whereas the polymer/carrier material remains transparent to irradiation.

A Specific Immunocapture Activity Assay for Matrix Metalloproteinases Using 5-FAM/QXL 520TM FRET Peptide
Addressing the limitations of previous FRET-based MMP assays, this poster documents the development of immunocapture-based FRET assays that are highly sensitive and specifically detect the activity of a particular MMP in a mixed biological sample. The assay sensitivity can reach picogram amounts of enzyme with a large and linear assay range. The assay can also be used to study the interaction between different MMPs.

Phase Tranformation of Sodium Carbonate to Monohydrate
Sodium carbonate is the most widely used chemical compound in the world. The 50% of this used in glass industry is in the form of dense sodium carbonate. The process of transformation of sodium carbonate to sodium carbonate monohydrate is the key step in the production of dense sodium carbonate. In this present work systematic experiments were conducted by using online in-situ measurement techniques. It is shown that the kinetics of phase transformation process is highly temperature dependant.

Achieving Ultra High Performance Screening
High throughput (HT) and Ultra High Throughput (UHT) screening remains a valuable and necessary approach to modern drug discovery. Successful application of HTS requires accurate and meaningful handling of the experimental results. This means capturing vast data volumes generated by HTS and UHTS programmes and subsequent validation and verification. Decision making regarding HTS data can be supported via comprehensive and intuitive visualization of results.

Cloe Screen MDR1-MDCK: A Predictive Model of Drug Permeability
A MDR1-MDCK permeability screen for assessing the membrane permeability properties of early drug discovery compounds has been developed. This study measured the bi-directional transport of compounds with a range of permeabilities across MDR1-MDCK monolayers. Drug concentrations were analysed by LC-MS/MS, from which apparent permeability values in apical-basolateral and basolateral-apical directions and asymmetry index were calculated.

Study Management in Late Stage Discovery and Preclinical Research
Organizations need to streamline their operations by managing the entire lifecycle of an experiment - from design to final publication of data. Organizations require the full benefits of IP protection, with the ability to access a solution for data capture, reduction, statistical analysis, charting and data curation. Researchers want a familiar notebook interface that they can use to create and manage study reports and publish data to corporate warehouses and document systems.
