Biotage® has announced 2 new instruments that utilize positive pressure for solid-phase extraction (SPE) of analytes in a wide variety of applications. The Biotage PRESSURE+ 96 processes 96-well SPE plates and the Biotage PRESSURE+ 48 processes up to 48 SPE columns simultaneously.

The Biotage PRESSURE+ utilizes a consistent, uniform flow of positive pressure that effectively displaces both low viscosity and highly viscous samples. Individual wells operate independently, increasing the overall reproducibility of analyte recoveries.

Conventional vacuum manifolds face challenges such as plugged wells where faster flowing channels run dry, creating free-flow paths for vacuum through the dry ports. Another challenge conventional systems face: as less viscous samples vacate their wells, vacuum pressure drops exponentially, leaving higher viscosity samples on the plate, resulting in variable analyte recoveries.

The positive pressure technology of the PRESSURE+ manifolds eliminates these issues, resulting in increased recoveries, greater reproducibility, easier validation and greater productivity for the user, saving time and money.

The PRESSURE+ manifolds are ideally suited for Biotage ISOLUTE ® SLE+ Supported Liquid Extraction plates and columns. SLE+ in conjunction with PRESSURE+ manifolds offers an efficient alternative to traditional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) for bioanalytical sample preparation, extracting aqueous samples up to 10 mL. ISOLUTE SLE+ provides high analyte recoveries, eliminates emulsion formation and reduces sample preparation time by up to 50%.

“As a leader in the global development of tools and technology for sample preparation, Biotage continues to provide practical solutions for chemistry professionals. In the last 12 months, we have introduced an extensive range of tools, including an extended line of ISOLUTE and EVOLUTE consumables, the Biotage RapidTrace® SPE Workstation and TurboVap® Evaporation Workstations.” says Toshiyuki Yachi, Vice President of Marketing at Biotage.
