Available from Dorton Analytical, the Octave™ Chromatography System is an automated chromatography platform designed for preparative-scale purification of chemical and biological compounds.
The Octave™ is a compact system based upon Simulated Moving Bed Chromatography (SMBC), a multicolumn continuous method that has been well-established for industrial scale production of sugars, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals.
The counter-current flow created by SMBC enables efficient utilization of stationary and mobile phases and operation at high feed concentrations, leading to increases in productivity versus conventional batch methods. The Octave System is able to continuously process chemical or biological samples, including racemates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants, and other crude fractions to yield grams of highly purified antibodies, proteins, sugars, amino acids, fatty acids, and other large and small molecules in just hours. The Octave chromatography platform is said to be an enabling technology for drug discovery, nutraceutical, food, renewable fuel and fine chemical research and development.
The Octave System carries eight column positions arranged in series and connected through a proprietary pneumatic valve array. The programmable 72-valve array contains no moving parts, occupies only 3 ul per valve, and responds within 100 ms. Fluid flow is controlled by four independent pumps. The valve and pump configuration provides flexibility in programming chromatographic protocols via the intuitive software. All flow paths consist of metal free biocompatible materials that are also compatible with common organic solvents and clean-in-place solutions.
The Octave System is available in two configurations with maximum flow rates up to 10 and 100 ml/min.
