Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced the new Thermo Scientific 8-Channel Decapper for handheld capping and decapping of multiple tubes in a 96-well microplate footprint. With the ability to remove and replace screw caps with ease, the time-consuming task of manually capping and de-capping, as well as the risk of repetitive strain injury (RSI), are eliminated. In combination with the use of a multichannel pipette, sample processing is streamlined to increase efficiency.

The Thermo Scientific 8-Channel Decapper is capable of uncapping a column of eight screw-top tubes in just four seconds, enabling researchers to increase the speed of access to samples and their return to storage. The caps are tightened and at the optimal torque to prevent any spills or leakages, to maintain sample integrity, and to avoid sample loss during cryogenic storage and freeze-thaw cycles.

As a mid-point between manual and automated capping, the handheld Thermo Scientific 8-Channel Decapper enables laboratories to decap only a single column as needed.
