Waters Corporation has launched a complete approach for the rapid characterization and identification of small molecules at the 54th ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry, May 28-June 1.

The instrumental method involves the usage of MSE acquisition technology currently available with the company’s Q-Tof Premier™ hybrid quadrupole mass spectrometer.

MSE lets scientists interpret complex data sets for small molecule applications such as metabolic profiling, impurity identification and natural products analysis, thereby improving overall throughput and quality of analytical results.

The Q-Tof Premier’s MSE is an acquisition mode that is designed to collect both exact mass precursor and product ion information from a single injection in a data-independent manner.

The MSE approach, in combination with the MetaboLynx™ Application Manager for MassLynx™ Software, provides some unique benefits:

- filters out false positives thereby enhancing productivity

- does not require prior knowledge of the ions to be fragmented

- runs parallel precursor, product ion and neutral loss analyses thereby eliminating the need for re-analysis

- streamlines data interrogation and reporting

"The company is extending the proven utility of MSE for proteomics research using the Waters® Protein Expression System to small molecule applications," said Mary Ellen Goffredo, Director of Product Marketing at Waters.

"Together with the narrow peak widths and sensitivity offered by the award-winning ACQUITY UPLC™ System, UPLC™/ MSE technology provides a rapid, simple route to maximize data quality and coverage for researchers to perform comprehensive qualitative analysis of small molecule compounds from complex matrices."

"Today’s announcement reiterates Waters’ commitment to driving innovation in mass spectrometry for discovery research."
