About the Speaker
1983-1988: PhD thesis, , Department of Chemistry, University of Athens, Greece. 1988-1989: Postdoctoral education: Dr Diamandis’ lab, Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada. 1989-up to now: Department of Chemistry, University of Athens, Greece where she is currently Professor of Analytical Chemistry and Clinical Chemistry. Elected member of the Committee for Clinical Molecular Biology Curriculum of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), that offers training in Molecular Diagnostics all over the world by the way of courses and hands on workshop in combination with lectures and methodological issues.
Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) analysis is a promising new diagnostic field for cancer patients towards the estimation of risk for metastatic relapse or metastatic progression.
Molecular characterization of CTC can provide important information on the molecular and biologic nature of these cells and is very important for the identification of therapeutic targets and resistance mechanisms in CTC, as well as for the stratification of patients and real-time monitoring of systemic therapies.
