E.S.I. Environmental Sensors Inc. announces the installation of a GroPoint™ Wireless system by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture (Sask Ag). The system will be deployed at the Outlook Crop Diversification Center, jointly operated by AAFC and Sask Ag.

AAFC and Sask Ag will initiate their use of the GroPoint™ Wireless monitoring system under irrigation pivots in a variety of crops for the upcoming 2011 growing season. The system consists of a series of field nodes, soil moisture sensors and a weather station, which will feed real-time, soil moisture and weather data via a wireless network to researchers through ESI's GroPoint™ Manager software.

The system serves several purposes and will provide a multitude of benefits to researchers, growers and the agricultural community. The system will allow scientists to gather data while they perform various research projects on demonstration plots and will verify the efficiency of irrigation equipment systems.

The system will assist irrigation managers (growers) in analyzing their irrigation methods, allowing them to make better decisions regarding when and how to irrigate. Staff at the center will also demonstrate the GroPoint™ Wireless system and monitoring equipment on tours and field days, which are held regularly for members of the agricultural community. It is anticipated that the research and results from this facility will be shared both federally through AAFC and provincially with other provincial agricultural ministries.

As well, it is hoped that as ESI continues to build on its established credibility in the scientific and research communities, this visibility will assist ESI in its efforts to further penetrate the commercial agriculture market. Pivot irrigation is a significant potential market for ESI - there are nearly 300,000 pivots in operation in North America.
