Phytowelt has reached the next milestone in a collaborative research project with Syngenta Flowers on a challenging plant species.

The research collaboration between Syngenta and Phytowelt GreenTechnologies is a mile stone based project. Depending on the results of each milestone the collaboration will continue. After having achieved the first milestone early in the year 2010, the work of both teams has led again to convincing results for the second milestone. Therefore, Dr. Marc Kreuger, Manager Technology at Syngenta Flowers, was on ease to decide to go ahead with the next steps. “Though we set out with challenging targets, encountered some obstacles that needed to be overcome, the milestone was met right on target. I am convinced that our close collaboration combined with both our expertises was the basis of this success.”

Phytowelt’s unique pool of expert knowledge encompasses both broad expertise on tissue culture as well as modern biochemical and molecular analytical methods and makes innovative plant breeding approaches even for challenging species valuable tools for plant breeding and plant biotechnology. “After reaching the second milestone we are confident that we will fulfill the rest of the tasks as well,“ Peter Welters, CEO of Phytowelt, pointed out. “Most of the major technical and scientific barriers have been resolved. Now, we can go ahead to use our technology to reach the final goal and transfer the desired property into this so far rarely investigated species.” Phytowelt’s expertise makes innovative traits accessible for more and more plant varieties. This leads to numerous benefits for both the breeder and the consumer.

Syngenta Flowers is a worldwide leader in the pot and bedding plant industry with a large proprietary portfolio. Operating on a global basis, it breeds and markets high-quality flower seeds, young plants and cuttings for the ornamental industry.
