Artifacts in histopathology: An experimental study

For diagnosis of many lesions histopathology is still a gold standard. The practice of histopathology involves mainly diagnosing slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin under a microscope. During the process of producing these slides in laboratory, errors can lead to eroneous picture on the slides. Such unwanted errors are termed as artifacts. Literature on such artifacts are sparse so this through this poster we show various artifacts that can occur.

Development and optimization of a procedure for extracting proteins from fixed archival tissues and assessment of its potential for biomarker discovery in human and veterinary medicine

Fixed tissue repositories are an ideal information mine for biomarker discovery, with their vast collections of diseased tissues and associated clinical records describing diagnosis, prognosis, therapy, and outcome.

Protein Microarrays for Characterisation of the Bacillus anthracis ‘infectome’

These studies provide an interesting insight into the transcriptome of virulent B. anthracis in a host infection environment.

Does the increase of exosomal microRNAs reflect an activated immune system in melanoma?

Cutaneous malignant melanoma is a form of skin cancer that accounts for 65% of skin cancer-related deaths. The incidence increases continuously, and while early detection leads to nearly 100% survival rates, the mortality raises to greater than 80% for patients with advanced disease.

Stealth-Adapted Viruses and Viteria: Insights into Virus Construction, Replication and Potential Therapies

There is an increasing incidence of diseases with accompanying signs and symptoms of brain damage. These include neurological and psychiatric illnesses, childhood behavioral disorders, and such common conditions as chronic fatigue, Gulf War Syndrome, so-called “chronic Lyme disease”, and many cancers. Altogether, these diseases have an enormous social impact.

A New Approach to Increase Yields and Improve Functionality of Recombinant Proteins

The ability to express and extract fully functional proteins in sufficient quantities from bacterial cultures is a prerequisite for many projects in which recombinant proteins are required for structural studies, functional characterization, as assay components or for other applications. However, low yield, poor solubility and lack of functionality are often associated with, what should be, a routine procedure.

Novel Nucleosomics Serum Biomarkers for the Detection of Colorectal Cancer

As colorectal cancers are often detected at late tumor stages when prognosis of the patients is poor, powerful blood-based biomarkers are needed for earlier detection. In recent years it has become clear that epigenetic changes to chromatin and its constituent nucleosomes are associated with carcinogenesis and elevated levels of nucleosomes are present in the blood of cancer patients.

Fingerprinting analytical strategy used for authentication of honey

The goal of the current study is mainly to establish potential origin markers, and not to build a model for prediction. This research provides a database for comparison of honey samples from Romania with other honey samples from the world. Data on d13C, d18O and d2H of honey measured by IRMS together with the stable isotopes (deuterium by SNIF-NMR and carbon 13 - IRMS) in ethanol from fermented honeys were reported.

Hypothesis of an Existence of a Reverse Pathway (Rp) which Passes Genetic Information from Polypeptide Antigens to Ig Genes in B-Lymphocytes

Results of this research will bring new more effective treatment methods of many immune related diseases, including cancer.

Cloning And Purification of a Putative Repressor Protein from Arthrobacter nicotinovorans Pao1

The soil bacterium Arthrobacter nicotinovorans carries the pAO1 catabolic megaplasmid which enables it to grow on nicotine (Igloi and Brandsch, 2003).
