Biomatrica Announces Sample Storage System

Read time: 1 minute

Biomatrica has developed a room-temperature sample storage system that is designed to eliminate the need for keeping biological samples cold or frozen.

Biomatrica’s product offerings include SampleMatrix™ dry storage medium, SampleGard™ sample storage and transportation system and SampleWare™ organizational and retrieval software.

Together, these products allow biological samples to be stored, transported and recovered at the bench-without the need for cold storage.

SampleMatrix™ is a dissolvable compound that stabilizes biological samples at room temperature.

The design of this synthetic polymer is based upon the natural principles of anyhydrobiosis and advanced polymer chemistry.

SampleMatrix™ storage medium dissolves within minutes during sample hydration and allows recovery without degradation or loss of activity.

SampleGard™ sample storage and transportation system features a 96-well plate that comes preloaded with SampleMatrix™ medium, so it is ready to use in all high-throughput applications.

SampleGard™ is compatible with applications such as PCR, sequencing, whole genome amplification, transformation and transfections.

SampleWare™ software works with SampleGard™ system technology to track and manage laboratory samples.

A barcode or radio frequency ID (RFID) chip located on the SampleGard™ storage plate can store sample information directly with the biological sample and connect to the software using barcodes or RFID readers.

SampleWare™ software, which is scalable from a single desktop to an enterprise solution, allows researchers to completely organize their sample collections and find samples in an instant.

Stefan Wieland, Ph.D., Senior Staff Scientist, Dept. of Molecular & Experimental Medicine, The Scripps Research Institute, comments on his success with SampleGard™ system, "I have been very happy with how Biomatrica's products have helped us organize DNA samples in our lab."

"This especially applies to archiving DNA samples from post-docs and other lab members that leave the lab and whose samples were previously stored in various boxes in different freezers."

"Now, with the SampleGard™ plates our researchers can easily find and retrieve the archived samples. I'm confident in the SampleGard™ technology, and I know I can just hand out the plates to the post-docs and let them do their jobs."
