Covalys Biosciences AG has announced the launch of products for immobilization and pull-down experiments based on its proprietary SNAP-tag.

SNAP-capture kits present a way to perform pull-down experiments by covalently immobilizing a protein of interest, without prior purification, on a resin or magnetic bead surface. The kits may also be used for studies of protein function.

This approach dispenses with the potentially damaging capture of the protein on a chemically activated surface and the problem of drift associated with antibodies for protein capture by offering a universally applicable covalent and orientated immobilization of proteins in physiological conditions. SNAP-capture Magnetic Beads Kits eliminate the need to carry out repeated centrifugation steps thus facilitating processing of samples and minimizing sample loss.

SNAP-capture Purification is intended for protein purification and permits immobilization under mild conditions, followed by vigorous washing of the immobilized protein without fear of eluting the protein of interest as the interaction with the resin is covalent. A new addition to the building blocks product range CBG-NH2 offers a further improved way to immobilize proteins to carboxy surfaces for applications such as Biacore®.

SNAP-express Gateway® plasmids offer a way to insert the ORF of interest from a Gateway® Entry Clone into a mammalian SNAP-express Gateway® destination vector thus minimizing or obviating the time required for cloning. SNAP-express Gateway® plasmids are available for cloning the ORF to either the N or C terminus of the SNAP-tag and are supplied with a positive control which directs a SNAP-tag fusion protein to the nucleus.

"The ability to rapidly, specifically, and covalently immobilize proteins of interest for pull down assays facilitates the study of protein-protein interactions particularly in the functional genomics area and will simplify and improve the quality of sample processing," said Dr. Andreas Brecht, Chief Executive Officer at Covalys.
