Micronic Europe BV has introduced a range of new storage tubes (0.50ml, 0.75ml, 1.10ml and 1.40ml) and capping products that absolutely secure the long term integrity of DNA samples for forensic analysis.

DNA sample storage is paramount in forensic DNA, epidemiological, clinical and genetic database laboratories. In forensic laboratories there is always the possibility, even after tens of years, that cases may be re-opened and any stored DNA sample may need to be re-tested.

In recent years the sensitivity of recovery techniques has increased to allow levels below 200pg of DNA to be detected and analysed in a forensic context. However this increased sensitivity has led to an increase in the observation of extraneous DNA contamination from storage consumables, sold as sterile or DNAase and RNAase free, having been rendered fit for forensic analysis using ionizing radiation (UV, gamma, X-ray, beta).

Using a new ethylene oxide treatment process - Micronic's new range of screw top and push cap tubes are independently certified to be absolutely DNA-free and therefore provide the perfect medium for long-term, high integrity storage of forensic samples.

Manufactured from medical grade polypropylene, in a fully automated class 7 cleanroom environment, Micronic storage tubes exhibit absolute product consistency and near zero contaminants. A 2D code on the bottom of each tube provides an easy means of identifying samples. The optimized internal shape of each Micronic sample storage tube ensures maximum sample recovery. Designed to fit 96 individual tubes into a standard footprint rack optimizes use of valuable freezer space and ensures automation compatibility.
