Cheers! How to determine sulfur dioxide (SO2) in beer and other liquid samples

Using the Kjeldahl method for sulfur dioxide determination in alcoholic beverages

A patented BUCHI SO2 Method for the determination of Total SO2 in beer to satisfy regulations by the European Union (maximal permitted level of total SO2 of 20 mg/L), or the FDA (25 mg/L). Levels of SO2 higher than 10 mg/L must be labelled.

The process can be used to analyze other beverages, such as wine. The same equipment can also be used for food analysis and protein determination via nitrogen determination in liquid samples such as milk.
