In this interview, Technology Networks’ Neuroscience Editor Ruairi Mackenzie speaks with Professor Ardem Patapoutian, winner of this year’s Kavli Prize in Neuroscience.

Back in 2010, Professor Patapoutian discovered a family of pressure-sensitive ion channels – the Piezos. A vast flood of research has since identified the essential role of Piezos in touch, pain, blood pressure regulation, lung inflation and proprioception, paving the way to understanding mechanobiology in health and disease.
