With gene editing techniques like CRIPSR-Cas it is now possible to efficiently introduce a desired trait into an animal population that we are breeding for. This can also contribute to animal welfare. Professor Martien Groenen expects gene editing will play an important role in animal breeding, but they are not a panacea.
