Prof. Donald Ingber is the founding director of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, Judah Folkman Professor of Vascular Biology at Harvard Medical School, and Hansjorg Wyss Professor of Bioinspired Engineering at Harvard School of Engineering & Applied Sciences. Prof. Ingber is a pioneering scientist and visionary in the field of body-on-a-chip technology. With an extensive background in biomedical engineering, he has revolutionized the way we approach research and understanding of human health. His work spans many disciplines ranging from the development of computational drug repurposing algorithms, shear-targeted stroke nanotherapeutics and bioinspired anticoagulant coatings for medical devices, to the development of human organ-on-a-chip microfluidic culture devices. As the founder of the groundbreaking field of body-on-a-chip, Prof. Ingber has dedicated his career to developing innovative microchip models that mimic the structure and function of human organs. His pioneering work has opened new avenues for drug discovery, toxicity testing, and personalized medicine, while reducing the reliance on animal testing. Prof. Ingber's exceptional expertise and profound insights have earned him international recognition, numerous accolades and he has authored over 500 publications and 200 patents. He a member of the U.S. National Academies of Medicine, Engineering and Inventors, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His research has significantly advanced our understanding of how organs function and interact within the human body, paving the way for transformative advancements in biomedical research.
