Cerebral Malaria Insights: Pathogenesis, Host Parasite Interactions including Host Resistance

Cerebral malaria is a dreadful disease transmitted by mosquito. The major preventive approach is focused more in vector control than development of anti-malarial drug. The purpose of this presentation is to analyze different aspects of disease manifestations including clinical symptoms and pathogenesis in the context of mosquito borne infections in different geographical regions of the world.

Amoebic Meningoencephalitis: Etiology, Infection and Prevention

The presentation covers the different types of organisms that can cause amoebic meningioencephalitis. The two main types focused on are primary amoebic meningioencephalitis and granulomatous amoebic meningioencephalitis. The method of transmission and target hosts are vastly different. Prevention of these diseases is imperfect at best, as complete avoidance is the only way to not contract the disease.

Depressive Symptoms Related to Biological Markers of Immune Functioning among Young People with HIV

Youth living with HIV (YLWH) are at risk for depression. This study aimed to identify trends in depressive symptoms for YLWH in a specialty-care clinic and follow up clinical treatment procedures.

Histone Deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) As A Therapeutic Target in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

This study investigates the role of histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and establishes it as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of this disease.

Inhibition of The Auto-inflammation Suppressor Protein ISG15 Triggers Preeclampsia by Blocking Trophoblast Migration and Invasion

In summary, ISG15 expression levels are crucial for trophoblast morphology and function (migration/invasion). By blocking trophoblast invasion, reduced ISG15 levels could contribute to impaired spiral artery transformation that reduces utero-placental blood flow in preeclampsia. Thus, agents inducing ISG15 expression are likely to be therapeutic in preeclampsia.

Chronic administration of a new therapeutic agent improves memory in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease with tau deposition.

Abnormal tau hyperphosphorylation and accumulation into neuronal neurofibrillary tangles are linked to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease. The aim of this study was to test the effects of a new therapeutic agent in a mouse model of tau deposition (Tg4510 mice). Mice treated with test agent-1 showed improvements in learning and memory compared to the control mice together with a reduction in tau oligomers in hippocampi homogenates.

An Emerging Phenotype of Partial RAG 1/2 Deficiency Among Young Children with Autoimmunity and Viral Infections

We describe the natural history of a cohort of 12 patients with confirmed partial RAG1/2 mutations and autoimmunity at a young age. We were seeking the link between viral infections and autoimmunity and tested candidate biomarkers that may reflect the underlying RAG1/2 protein deficiency.
