SYBR® Green I as a biomarker for schizophrenia
The purpose of this study were to examine if the mRNA of the peripheral dopamine receptor is changed in schizophrenia patients. 50 Naive patients were enrolled. After extracting RNA from white blood cells, cDNA is synthesized. After doing the quantitative Real-time PCR, expression of D3 receptors in healthy persons and patients were compared. Results of this examinations reveals that expression of D3 receptor is increased in compared with controls sample.

Point-of-care testing for prostate cancer diagnosis
This presentation describes the potential of using a new fully automated QCM biosensor and a commercial SPR biosensor for the detection of PSA, a biomarker for prostate cancer. Initially a new buffer was formulated to eliminate 98% of the non-specific human serum protein binding to the sensors. Obtained results indicate that both instruments can be used for the fast and easy detection of PSA (0.29-150 ng/ml) in serum.

Nutritionally-induced differences in the metabolic profiles of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Saccharomyces cerevisae determined by 1H-NMR and cross model validation and permutation testing
Using cross validation, permutation and rank products statistical procedures we identified biomarker regions in proton spectra of polar metabolites extracted from the algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (light and dark grown) and from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisae (aerobically and anaerobically grown).

Diagnostic Significance of microRNA Tumor Biomarkers in Fine Needle Aspirates (FNA) of Pancreatic Cancer
Collection of pancreatic fine needle aspirates (FNAs) in RNARetain™ allows stabilization and protection of RNA in tissues containing high levels of nucleases; Differential miRNA expression in pancreatic FNAs accurately classifies benign and malignant tissue; Combinations of miRNA and mRNA expression signatures improve the separation between normal tissue and chronic pancreatitis; microRNAs are suitable analytes for molecular characterization of fine needle aspirates from pancreatic tissues.

Biomarkers and Metabolomics: Practical Implication
Current presentation is dedicated to case studies and illustrates diversity of the projects. Cases representing different projects combine the same analytical platform we utilize for metabolomics study of blood plasma and urine. While pattern recognition presents certain challenges but rather ones that can be resolved, identification of low abundant unknown biomarkers is critical for the field and offers significant technical challenge in spite of considerable progress in modern analytical techn
