Detecting Hypermethylated Circulating Tumor DNA Using Digital PCR

Detecting Hypermethylated Circulating Tumor DNA Using Digital PCR content piece image

Changes in the DNA methylation status of gene regulatory regions constitutes emerging biomarkers for several different cancers. This epigenetic change is biologically stable and is observed in circulating tumor DNA, meaning its presence can be exploited for early detection and noninvasive dynamic monitoring of tumor burden. In colorectal cancer hypermethylation of WNT inhibitory factor 1 (WIF1) and neuropeptide T (NPY) was found in 80% of metastatic patients and 44.7% of patients with Stage II/III disease.
