GenoLogics has announced that EdgeBio, a leading sequencing services provider, has deployed the GenoLogics Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), bringing an unprecedented level of flexibility and adaptability to its next-generation sequencing (NGS) core laboratory. The GenoLogics LIMS replaces EdgeBios existing commercial LIMS software.
"We required a LIMS that was built specifically for genomics applications and that would easily integrate with our labs existing instrumentation platforms, yet we wanted our lab to have the flexibility to adapt to future advanced sequencing technologies," said Justin Johnson, director of bioinformatics at EdgeBio. "Our decision to implement the GenoLogics LIMS was validated when we became one of the first companies to provide sequencing services on the Ion Torrent PGM. With the GenoLogics LIMS in place, our lab proved nimble enough to quickly integrate with this desktop personal sequencing platform, which is one of many new technologies we will deploy to meet our customers demands."
The GenoLogics LIMS is designed to provide the scalability, adaptability and usability features necessary for mainstream adoption of the most advanced sequencing technologies while supporting existing genotyping platforms. The product features the GenoLogics Rapid Scripting Application Programming Interface (API) that empowers scientific programmers and bioinformaticians to quickly and easily reconfigure and customize workflows as laboratory protocols change. The API allows programmers to automate sample tracking to ensure quality results, incorporate new analysis methods, and to optimize laboratory research workflow to streamline operations. GenoLogics is developing preconfigured LIMS for NGS instruments, including new desktop personal genomics (PG) instruments from Illumina and Ion Torrent, in order to support de facto NGS standards and best practices.
