Evotec is a company specialising in the discovery and development of novel small molecule drugs and performs R&D on small molecules for partners as well as in-house discovery projects. The staff comprise of more than 500 researchers in UK, Germany, India and Singapore with activities in biology, screening, chemistry, structural biology, ADMET and pharmacology.
Why ELN?
Implementing an ELN was anticipated to give the following improvements:
• Efficiency by avoiding repeated work
• Sharing information within project teams to rapidly compile data
• Quality monitoring and standardization of health and safety processes
The current system required updating to reflect the growth of Evotec’s business.
Implementation
The installation of the Contur system only took one week, including integration with Evotec’s internal systems for user management and suppliers. A single site data centre supports Evotec users globally.
The same server system was used for the trial period as for the full roll-out, making the transition seamless for the users.
Impact
User feedback has been very positive. Cloning experiments and the superior project overview are highly appreciated features. As one user says, “You could probably do most of it by using a combination of programs and a lot of Pritt stick in a paper notebook but you would not be able to share the information as easily as you can with this ELN system and it’s much easier to produce a really detailed experiment write up and do it quickly.”
From a corporate point of view the vision is clear: “The introduction of Contur ELN at Evotec is going to change the way that we work, make communication better and further improve the consistency, access and quality of work that we do for our clients.” Dr. Ian Berry, head of eScience at Evotec
