ZixEnable Is Selected by ICON Central Laboratories to Encrypt Laboratory Results

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp), a leader in email encryption services, was selected by ICON Central Laboratories to provide lab reports through an encrypted email solution for select sites participating in clinical trials. ICON Central Laboratories, a division of ICON plc, is a global central laboratory exclusively engaged in clinical trial testing. With laboratories located in New York, Dublin, Singapore, India and China, ICON Central Laboratories has tested and reported lab results for clinical trial subjects in more than 40,000 sites worldwide.
ICON Central Laboratories tracks patient results using ICOLIMS, a state-of-the-art laboratory information management system. Once recorded, ICOLIMS automatically sends patient results through ZixEnable(SM), an application-generated email encryption service. With ZixEnable, patient results are delivered securely 24/7 worldwide, enabling physicians to better monitor and adjust patient treatment during clinical trials.

The pharmaceutical research industry has traditionally used fax machines to deliver patient results to clinical sites. The most significant challenges in faxing patient results are the inability to reach all clinical sites and the inability of physicians to manage the information electronically.
Physicians who use ZixGateway(R), a policy-based email encryption appliance, receive patient results transparently in their inbox, requiring no extra steps or passwords to access the encrypted email. Physicians without ZixGateway receive encrypted email through ZixPort(R), a secure Web portal. Regardless of delivery method, ICON Central Laboratories receives reports on who has received and opened the encrypted email.
