Integration of Data and Optimization of Workflows in Laboratory Automation

Integration of Data and Optimization of Workflows in Laboratory Automation content piece image

The iLAB Software Framework, a middleware connecting lab devices and higher level enterprise software systems, provides a plug-in architecture that can be adapted to individual lab environments. Integration of devices is preferably based on SiLA (Standardization in Laboratory Automation) data and communication protocols. In addition to device integration, process data and result data from different sources (e.g. readers or liquid handling devices) is converted to an ASTM Standard Format and administered by a powerful database for further in-lab processing. In this poster we describe the use of iLAB in a bioprocess development application. Process parameters and measured values of two high-throughput bioreactor systems (96-Well Plates and 10 ml reactor vessels) are collected in the iLAB database. Data from screening experiments carried out on the two systems as well as offline-analytical data is visualized, analyzed and compared. A filter algorithm allows searching for matching parameters in experiments as well as the comparison of correlated data sets, independently from the bioreactor system used in the first place. The integration of devices and of data generated in the lab – online and offline – enables the generation of optimal automated workflows based on consistent, comprehensive and current data.
