ABB has introduced the newest version of its Decathlon data center infrastructure management(DCIM)system, built on decades of proven success with energy efficient, mission critical systems for industrial applications and leadership in automation technology.
Decathlon Version 2 is an open platform that can integrate diverse legacy systems, while allowing new systems and technologies to be added, to facilitate more dynamic business operation. It provides unified visibility and expert decision support across a company‚s worldwide data center portfolio so that data center operators can allocate resources across entire enterprises more intelligently, for significant new efficiencies.
In the current business climate of mergers and acquisitions, data center professionals are often challenged to manage newly acquired facilities with different building management systems and monitoring equipment. Hard-to-diagnose inefficiencies and unsynchronized and incompatible alarms intensify that challenge. ABB has drawn on its history of engineering for high availability industrial applications, and pioneering smartgrid innovations to develop the Decathlon suite of solutions to address these issues.
Decathlon Version 2 can integrate with any data center infrastructure, connecting to all leading building management systems (BMS), power/energy management systems and any other monitoring at the system or device level. The operator is free to add preferred applications, such as Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or work-order ticketing systems.
Accurate and fine-grained visibility is attained through a unified enterprise view of combined device and system metrics. Operators can right-size resources to business requirements on a broad scale. Power usage effectiveness tactics can be employed and measured and energy scaled directly to equipment use. A standardized approach to mapping resilience allows more effective planning and management of disaster response. Graphical representations of a unified alarm system give status at a glance and specific root-cause analysis.

The release is highlighted at a new demonstration environment within ABB‚s Smart Grid Center of Excellence on North Carolina State University‚s Centennial Campus and at a number of other locations worldwide. Visitors to the US facility can see Decathlon demonstrated with ABB‚s expertise in mission critical systems and smart/micro grid technology.
