DNASTAR® has announced the release of Lasergene 10 as a Sanger and next-generation sequence analysis and assembly software upgrade with major enhancements to its flagship desktop software suite for molecular biologists.

Lasergene 10 is the third significant update to Lasergene in the past year.

Among other important improvements, Lasergene 10 introduces SeqNinja, a powerful tool for manipulating and modifying large or complex sets of genomic data or editing sequence data and annotations across large data sets very quickly.

Other major new features supported in Lasergene 10 include extended next-gen sequence assembly and analysis support for Ion Torrent and Pacific Biosciences data and applications; incorporation of dbSNP, Cosmic and GERP database information into sequence assembly and analysis projects; the ability to create custom SNP tables; and detection of splice site sequence variations.

Last year, Lasergene 9 introduced Protean 3D as an integrated macromolecular sequence and structure viewer, which was enhanced by incorporating integrated bioinformatic method analysis into Protean 3D with the release of Lasergene 9.1.

In Lasergene 10, Protean 3D now includes the ability to draw 2D chemical structures of residues and ligands as well as the incorporation of the Prosite database within this application.

A final new component of Lasergene 10 is the integration of GenVision into the Lasergene Core Suite, so that all Lasergene Core Suite users will now have the ability to create publication quality graphics of integrated data sets as part of the core suite functionality.

Tom Schwei, Vice President and General Manager of DNASTAR, said, “We have been on an exceptionally fast development schedule recently. Lasergene 10 represents the third significant Lasergene software upgrade within the past 12 months. We are delighted to be able to bring enhanced capabilities to the market so rapidly. We expect to continue this pace for the foreseeable future to meet the needs of the market exceptionally well, as we’ve been doing for more than 25 years.”
