What Makes Cancer Cells Metastasize?

reast cancer cell are grown in a highly dense 3D collagen matrix. After 7 days the cells form networks that resemble the early stages of blood vessel development. Images show representative structures observed in these environments after satining for cells nuclei (blue) and the cell's cytoskeleton (green). Similar structures have been observed in tumor patient samples and have been referred to as vasculogenic mimicry. Credit: University of California San Diego

Algae Could Feed and Fuel Planet with Aid of New High-Tech Tool

News

Vast quantities of medicines and renewable fuels could be produced by algae using a gene-editing technique, a study suggests. The technique uses molecules that act like scissors to cut DNA - called CRISPR molecules - which allow researchers to add new genes or modify existing ones. Until now, scientists have struggled to develop a technique that works efficiently in algae.
