Researchers have been trying to develop easy and cost-effective genome editing tools to address problems across a wide spectrum of fields. Gene therapy could progress rapidly if the genes responsible for a genetic disease could simply be removed. Additionally, if genes could be manipulated effectively, such as in genetically modified food, crop yields could be optimized to continue to feed the ever-growing population. However, genome editing technologies are challenging to design and manipulate, restricting the advancement of genome editing.
