Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced that the University of Middlesex, are finding that the Thermo Scientific Verso cDNA Synthesis Kit and Thermo Scientific ABsolute Blue QPCR Master Mix are a significant aid to their cancer biomarker research projects.

The Biomarker (Molecular Pathology) Group at University of Middlesex, Professor Ray Iles labs, has recently converted to ABsolute Blue QPCR Master Mix and the Verso cDNA Synthesis Kit to detect cancer biomarker expression in different bladder cancer cell lines such as SCaBER, RT112 and T24. These kits are being used to detect expression levels of hCG beta-expressing tumor cells where it has been found that hCG beta is associated with the invading edge of tumors that will lead to metastasis.

In Professor Ray Iles labs, the Verso cDNA Synthesis Kit is being used to detect the low levels of hCG beta expression from tumor cells. The Verso cDNA Synthesis Kit is able to tackle low expression transcripts by utilizing a new RT enzyme and optimized priming strategies that combine anchored random hexamers and oligo dT primers in a 3:1 ratio. After reverse transcribing the mRNA, the laboratory then quantifies the levels of expression with ABsolute Blue QPCR Master Mix. ABsolute Blue contains an inert blue dye for easy visualization of master mix addition.

The Verso cDNA Synthesis Kit and ABsolute Blue QPCR Master Mixes are available in a range of pack sizes to fit any experimental throughput.
