EMP Project and Encyclopedia Genomica Complete the Reconstruction of Prostate and Mammary Gland Metabolism

Encyclopedia Genomica and EMP Project have announced that the two organizations will jointly commercialize metabolic reconstructions of human prostate and breast tissues. The goal is to engage in research projects with customers to identify novel and specific approaches that offer improved therapies and early detection of disease. Metabolic reconstruction is a technology that uses genomics data to reverse engineer metabolic processes.
"While metabolic reconstruction technology has proven its utility in many prokaryotes with applications in "white" and "red" biotechnology, reconstructions of human tissues have remained largely unexplored, but in our hands already provide important information" said Dr. Evgeni Selkov, President of EMP Project. "The work of the two companies on transcriptomes and the tissue-specificity of gene expression, proteins, and metabolism provide in-depth understanding of proteins, pathways and metabolites whose failure can lead to disease or malfunction."
"Our partnership with EMP Project is essential for understanding of tissue specificity in metabolism, as no other resource exists that presents metabolism in such completeness, detail, and interconnectivity as do EMP Project’s MPW databases", said Dr. Roelf Datema, CEO of Encyclopedia Genomica. "We are beginning to learn how to bridge genome analysis and biochemistry in organ function to then define what pharmacological interference or biomarkers ought to mean in development of drugs and diagnostics"
