GE Healthcare announced the launch of DeltaVision Ultra at the American Society of Cell Biology (ASCB) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DeltaVision Ultra is a high-resolution widefield deconvolution microscope optimized for imaging and analysis of cellular and subcellular processes, up to 50 μm beyond the coverslip and down to 250nm in size.

“Designed for extreme sensitivity in widefield fluorescence imaging, DeltaVision Ultra combines the amazing image quality our customers have come to expect with a fast, versatile and easy to use system”, said Dr. Mike Lewis, Segment Leader for GE Healthcare’s Cell Analysis business.

Widefield microscopes can quickly capture large fields of view, but they are often limited by interference from out-of-focus light. DeltaVision Ultra uses a unique deconvolution method that addresses this conventional shortcoming and captures images from the most challenging samples, including small structures, dim samples and live cells.

DeltaVision Ultra offers scientists several important benefits, including:


• A custom light path that maximizes light efficiency and reduces phototoxicity and photobleaching, allowing researchers to keep cells alive longer and track dynamic events.


• An optimized stage that enables imaging of a variety of sample types, including culture dishes, glass slides, chambered cover glass or multi-well plates.


• The capacity for multi-well scanning, in 96- or even 384-well plates, to observe trends across cell populations and increase the statistical robustness of scientific findings.


• A compact and ergonomic environmental chamber combined with advanced gas control that enables live cell imaging analysis under physiological conditions as well as more complex non-physiological conditions, such as hypoxia.

The Acquire Ultra acquisition software has an intuitive interface that delivers expert results with minimal training and is designed to adapt to the evolving needs of scientific research. A researcher can automatically acquire two- or three-dimensional data in multiple channels with point visiting, panel acquisition and plate scanning, saving researchers time. The software also features tools for visualizing and analyzing acquired data and for performing quantitative image processing.
