Skeletal muscle nerve
Editor's Pics Jan 04, 2017
Confocal micrograph of a cross-section through a nerve passing through a mouse skeletal muscle.
The dystrophin protein (red) is found in the muscle cells and DRP2 (dystrophin-like protein - green) in the plasma membrane of the Schwann cells.
The Schwann cells form the myelin sheaths around the nerve fibres. Dystrophin is the protein that is reduced or absent in the muscular dystrophies.
