The source of fear. Researchers at Boston University investigating how the brain stores memory took this image of these mouse hippocampal cells in the dentate gyrus subregion. The cells are expressing channel-rhodopsin in an activity dependent manner, and have been imaged using fluorescence microscopy on a Zeiss LSM800. These cells in particular were involved in storing a fear memory.
