Director’s Message

We aim to solve one of the biggest black boxes of today’s neuroscience

Director Masashi Yanagisawa

Our discovery of the neuropeptide orexin and its prominent role in sleep/wake regulation has generated a highly active research fields in neurobiology of sleep and metabolism. However, the fundamental governing principle for the regulation of sleep pressure, e.g., (1)the question of what the neural substrate for “sleepiness” is, (2) We have to sleepy remains a mystery. We focus on sleep neurobiology, and aim to solve one of the biggest mysteries in today’s neuroscience.
