GE Healthcare Introduces 2-D Protein Extraction Buffer

Read time: Less than a minute
GE Healthcare has introduced 2-D Protein Extraction Buffer, a series of six buffers for reproducible extraction of high quality protein lysates with high yield. Resulting protein lysates are suitable for applications such as 2-D gel analysis and 1-D electrophoresis, or for rehydrating IPG strips prior to 2-D electrophoresis.

The six new buffers (2-D Protein Extraction Buffer-I to -VI) are modifications of well studied protein solubilizers, and are available as a dry powder which is rehydrated with the provided diluent. The optimal buffer depends on the nature of the sample. The 2-D Protein Extraction Buffer Trial Kit is also available for evaluation of each extraction buffer, enabling optimization of total protein extraction.

The dry powder formulation eliminates problems associated with carbamylation, which can occur in solutions containing urea and may alter protein charge, producing spot artifacts on 2-D spot maps.

Each package contains the reagents necessary to prepare 50ml buffer, and the 2-D Protein Extraction Buffer Trial Kit includes reagents for preparing 10ml of each of the six buffers.
