Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces new Microarray Substrate

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced the introduction of an agarose-based microarray substrate for proteomics and discovery, the Thermo Scientific SuperChip™ AB.

Agarose, a substance already familiar to scientists working with proteins is said to be a protein-friendly medium that can significantly reduce the background that can interfere with signal detection of low abundance proteins or peptides. SuperChip AB is an alternative to substrates that produce higher backgrounds, so low-expression molecules stand out.

“Scientists working with agarose in 2-D gels or capillary electrophoresis are aware of its benefits in protein studies,” said Slawek Mielewczyk, Ph.D., senior scientist and project leader for the slides and specialty glass business of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

“We’re introducing the SuperChip AB as a lower-background alternative to existing substrates when signal interference could pose a problem. The combination of agarose and our proprietary microarray surface offers the covalent binding properties required for protein studies.”
