Thermo Fisher Scientific will be showcasing several new sample preparation products for mass spectrometry within the Thermo Scientific hospitality suite at the Vancouver Convention Center (Parkview Terrace - Rooms 1, 2 and 3) during ASMS 2012, being held May 20-24.

The Thermo Scientific HiPPR Detergent Removal Resin is an efficient tool for the cleanup of protein and peptide solutions, especially when protein concentrations range from 10 to 150 micrograms.

The high-performance HiPPR Resin removes up to 95 percent of ionic, nonionic and zwitterionic detergents at concentrations of 0.5 to 1 percent.

The Thermo Scientific 1-Step Heavy Protein In Vitro Protein Expression Kit enables rapid cell-free expression of recombinant proteins containing stable isotope-labeled (i.e., heavy) amino acids.

Heavy proteins expressed using this system can be used as mass spectrometry controls to determine protein digestion efficiency, preparation variability and protein enrichment levels.

Proteins with 90 to 95 percent isotope incorporation efficiency are produced in less than eight hours.

Thermo Fisher has also expanded its Thermo Scientific SILAC Protein Quantitation line with new amino acids and media.

Stable isotope labeling with amino acids in cell culture (SILAC) is a powerful method to identify and quantify relative differential changes in complex protein samples.

This approach entails the in vivo metabolic incorporation of "heavy" 13C- or 15N-labeled amino acids into proteins followed by mass spectrometry (MS) for the accelerated and comprehensive identification, characterization and quantitation of proteins.
