This year several new networking events take place "off-stage" in San Diego's nearby Gaslamp Quarter, with something fun taking place after hours every night.  For instance, there is a Monday night mixer in the exhibit hall followed closely by a Late Night With LRIG-Rapid Fire Innovation Session, while on Tuesday the exhibit hall mixer is followed by a Gaslamp Block Party Bash.  Certainly this agenda appears to be a fun and engaging one!

The Informatics track has been expanded, with sessions starting Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday.  Topics to be addressed include the increasing complexity of informatics in the scientific arena as well as solutions and approaches from data interoperability to data mining to emerging informatics technologies.  Speakers include industry professionals as well as vendors providing case studies and real-world examples that address the challenges of and solutions for integrating and mining biological data.  In addition, Jay Gill chairs an Informatics Special Interest Group (SIG) during the Wednesday lunch hour that will focus on systems architecture from the board to the user interface, and will include topics such as hardware/software interfaces, data management, metadata management, asynchronous coding and operating systems, networking and "big data issues".

The SLAS 2012 exhibition hall will showcase some 300 companies featuring the latest in laboratory technologies and automation. Expect to see numerous new innovations unveiled, continuing past traditions; a preview of many of these introductions is available on the SLAS 2012 web site.

See you there!
