Biopharmaceutical Evaluation of Poorly Soluble Drugs and Enabling Formulations
Conference Recording May 14, 2013
About the SpeakerMartin Brandl, is trained as a pharmacist, has earned a doctoral and a habil-degree in pharmaceutics. He currently holds a (full) professor position at Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (since 2009) and acts as program chair for the pharmacy undergraduate program at SDU besides serving as editor-in-chief for European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Elsevier). His current research interests are centered around drug delivery via liposomes (triggered release), oral delivery of poorly soluble drugs and in vitro drug permeability studies.
Current paradigm of “enabling formulations” is: Poorly soluble drugs may upon solubilization show absorption profiles similar to soluble drugs. Therefore, formulation development aims at robust solubility enhancement. A critical review of common in-vitro approaches and experimental data on solubility / permeability of poorly soluble drugs from enabling formulations is presented.
