The Famous vs. The Inconvenient – or Why Use 3D-Culture Systems
Conference Recording Mar 08, 2013
About the SpeakerEric Gottwald studied Biology at the University of Cologne. For a post-doctoral position he joined the Institute of Toxicology of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH. In 2000 he became group leader of the group 3D-culture systems at the Institute of Medical Engineering and Biophysics of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH. In 2008 he became Managing Director of the Institute of Biological Interfaces-1 at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). His research interests are the development of chip-based cell culture techniques with a focus on stem cell niches.
One of the boosts for the development of new 3D-culture techniques is due to elaborated manufacturing and surface modification techniques, especially micro and nano systems technologies that have either improved dramatically or have evolved even lately.
