Water is one of the most widely used substances in the pharmaceutical industry. It functions as an ingredient, cleaning agent, reagent, solvent and a product, throughout the drug discovery process, from the initial identification of potential drug targets, all the way to the manufacture and quality control of the final product. However, water can be subject to a broad range of particulate, chemical and microbiological contaminants, any of which may be potential health hazards. This means that water quality in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations must be affectively controlled.
