Alicja Szadziewska is a PhD student in neuroscience, researching spatial biology and neurodegeneration in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. She works in the lab of Professor Jörg Hanrieder, whose group develops advanced imaging and spatial biology approaches to study neurodegenerative disease pathology. Her doctoral research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, with a particular interest in how amyloid-β plaques differ between patients and how these differences relate to the surrounding brain tissue environment. In her work, she combines human brain tissue analysis with spatially resolved technologies. Through this approach, she aims to better understand the molecular diversity of Alzheimer’s disease pathology and how it may contribute to differences in disease progression and clinical presentation. Before beginning her PhD, Alicja completed a master’s degree in neurobiology and medical analytics. Her academic background combines neuroscience, molecular biology, biomedical analysis, and laboratory diagnostics, giving her a broad perspective on both experimental research and clinically relevant disease mechanisms. She is particularly interested in applying spatial multiomics technologies to human brain tissue to generate more pathology-informed insights into Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
