Annemieke Pustjens is a Dutch food scientist associated with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), where she works within Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR). Her scientific career has focused on food authenticity, food safety, nutrition, and analytical chemistry, with particular expertise in detecting food fraud and verifying the quality of food products. At WFSR, she has been involved in the “Authenticity, Additives & Nutrients” research group and has contributed to projects aimed at improving trust and transparency in modern food systems. Her work combines advanced laboratory techniques with practical applications for regulators, policymakers, and the food industry. In addition to food authenticity research, she has contributed to nutritional studies examining dietary intake and eating habits in the Netherlands, including research involving children’s nutrition. Earlier in her academic career, she also worked on agricultural and animal nutrition topics, including studies related to rapeseed carbohydrates and feed utilization. Beyond research, she has participated in public science communication, speaking about deceptive practices in the food industry and the scientific tools used to uncover them. Through her work, she has helped strengthen the scientific foundation for food integrity and consumer protection in Europe.
